Matthias Leeck (*1988 in Wermelskirchen, raised in Wuppertal) is a German-Italian artist, curator and researcher whose work explores the intersections between analog and digital reality. Working primarily through sculpture, installation, and digital media, Leeck engages deeply with themes of space, perception, and memory. His studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, which he completed in 2015 as a master student of Prof. Didier Vermeiren, gave him the opportunity to connect with renowned artists who shaped his artistic development. He was privileged to work for a time in the studio of internationally acclaimed sculptor Tony Cragg in Wuppertal.
After professional experiences in London and Berlin, Leeck created works that increasingly reflect social, scientific, and historical themes.
Leeck’s work has been exhibited across Germany and honored with awards, including the Förderpreis of the City of Gladbeck and the Audience Award at the International Bergische Art Exhibition. His art invites reflection on the relationship between humanity, history, nature, and technology. For the exhibition “Augmented Realities in the Anthropocene – An Artistic Research,” which took place in November 2024, Leeck developed the concept, bringing together artists and scientists from Berlin and Trondheim. Supported by the Norwegian-German Willy Brandt Foundation, the project underscores his commitment to the intersection of art and science and highlights his engagement with the urgent questions of our time.
